Let me help you launch your next pattern

Are you a knitting designer in need of a second pair of eyes to look over your pattern before you publish?

Do you enjoy designing gorgeous lace or cabled patterns but aren’t sure if your instructions are clear enough?

Would you like to be able to create clear, concise charts but don’t have the right software?

As a designer myself I know how important it is to you that your pattern is as perfect as can be before release. With over 10 years knitting experience I enjoy knitting and editing lace and cable accessories, such as hats, shawls and socks. In a past life I was in accounts and administration giving me plenty of experience hunting down those missing numbers and getting everything to balance.

Tech Editing

As your tech editor I will check that:
  • your key numbers and any pattern repeats are accurate
  • all increases/decreases give the necessary stitch counts
  • your charts match your written instructions (if required)
  • your pattern has the same format and style throughout
  • the gauge reflects the finished measurements given in your pattern
  • the finished measurements are within range for the appropriate standards (if required).

I can also recommend any additional features that may help your pattern appeal to a new/returning knitter if required.

What is it like to work with me?

I accept patterns in PDF format only. If you need help converting your word document in to PDF, please contact me.

When you send your pattern to me I will look at it before replying with a quote for how long I think it will take and how much it will cost.

The quote will include:

  • the initial edit
  • a second edit, once you have made any changes
  • a final check, if required, before you publish.

If you could send a style sheet or an example of a previous pattern this could help to cut down on the editing time.

Once I have received an email from you accepting the quote or making any amendments necessary, then I will begin the edit.

My turnaround for each edit is 5 working days from receiving your email.

As your tech editor I will not make any changes to your pattern, I will only annotate your PDF with any suggestions or changes needed, then send it back for you to make the changes you feel necessary.

How much will it cost?

My rate is £20 per hour, charged in 15 minute increments (minimum charge 1 hour).

As a guide, simple accessories should take between 1-1 1/2 hours.

Chart Creation

Do you wish you could add charts to your patterns but don’t know where to start?

Let me help! I’d love nothing more than to relieve your stress, take your written instructions and turn them in to a clear and simple chart for you.

What’s it like to work with me?

I can create charts for any of your knitted items, garments or accessories. All you need to do is let me know which part of the pattern you would like charting and send me a .PDF copy of your written instructions. If for any reason your pattern isn’t suitable for turning in to a chart, I will let you know free of charge.

Once you have given me the go ahead I will:

  • Create a chart using your written instructions.
  • Draw the chart using Stitchmastery software.
  • Offer advice on how to word your instructions to best include the chart, if necessary.
  • Send you .jpeg copies of your chart with a separate key in both horizontal and vertical format so you can arrange the charts in your pattern however you wish.
How much will it cost?
  • Simple chart – £10
  • Average chart – £20
  • Complex chart – £30+
  • Multiple charts – Quotes on request
