For a long time now I have been toying with the idea of changing the name of my business. I always wanted it to be something that reflected my values and the focus of my business, but up until now that ‘perfect’ name has always eluded me.
I recently decided to upgrade my website which meant that I could choose my own domain name. This also meant it was crunch time. I either had to come up with a new name or make peace with the one I was using.
After days of to-ing and fro-ing, brainstorming and researching ideas I finally came to the conclusion that this idea wasn’t going go away and that perhaps a new decade was the perfect time for a new name. So I settled upon the name that I kept coming back to time and again, the one that encapsulated everything I wanted to say. The Conscious Knitter.
The Conscious Knitter reflects me both as a knitter and a person. Lately I have being trying to become more mindful and intentional and I have particularly become more aware of how I use knitting to unwind and decompress. This has got me thinking about how important it is that my patterns are able to benefit others in the same way. With that in mind I’m revisiting all my patterns to make sure that they contain all the information needed to knit that pattern with ease. I’m also adding a low-vision format to every pattern and thinking of ways to keep the materials that I use sustainable, both for the environment and knitters pockets.
I am aware that there are always things I can learn and improve on as a strive to give knitters the best possible experience when knitting from one of my patterns. So what would you like to see included in more knitting patterns? Is there anything I could do to help make patterns more accessible to you? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
