Over the course of the past few of years a few *insert expletive here* events have cropped up, often leaving me feeling far removed from my usual cheerful self. As a means of trying to find a way to better channel these emotions I came up with the idea to create a pattern collection, where each of the different patterns could be sold in aid of a different charity carrying out research and supporting those affected by these issues. After a lot of planning and soul searching I am very proud to be able to announce the launch of the Aurora collection!
Inspired by the Northern Lights, the collection will consist of a hat, a shawl and a pair of socks, with each pattern being sold in aid of a different charity. First up is the Northern Lights hat, sold in aid of the UK charity Alzheimer’s Society, in memory of my Grandma. She was the person who used to knit for me and who, along with my Mum, that taught me how to knit. She inspired me to sew and to make my own clothes and she had the best button collection! But slowly, over a number of years, dementia took my beloved Grandma away. Our experiences of living with and losing someone with dementia have been the driving force behind this design and I hope that together we can help others going through the same situation, as well as help fund research so that one day a cure to this cruel disease may be found.
Northern Lights is on sale now in my Payhip store and on Love Knitting with £2 from the sale of each pattern being donated to Alzheimer’s Society (Registered Charity Number 296645). If you would like to knit your hat in the same yarn I used then head over to thewoolkitchen.com and check out her amazing DK yarns. The sample is knit in the colourway ‘Space Cowboy’, but if purple isn’t your thing then Helen has lots of other colourways dyed in this style.
