September is going to be a very special month for me as it is full of ‘firsts’. The first ‘first’ is publishing my first shawl design. The Shooting Stars shawl was inspired by summer meteor showers. Truth be told, I have yet to see one. I was in the perfect position to see one last year while camping, but a toddler nightmare put paid to that. I am hopeful that I will get to see one one day, and in the meantime I have my shawl to comfort me.
This large triangular shawl features silver lace sections streaking across a purple sky, using two colours of Yeavering Bell 4 ply by Whistlebare in Edwin’s Cloak and Willo’ the Wisp. The halo created by the mix of Whistlebare’s own Wensleydale and Mohair creates a wonderful ethereal feel to this shawl. I can tell that I am going to get a lot of use out of this one and can see it quickly becoming a go-to item.
With an easy to remember lace pattern, this shawl also makes ideal TV knitting and is perfect for relaxing with at the end of a busy day. This is when I do the majority of my sample knitting, so you can be assured that all of my patterns have been tried and tested!
The second ‘first’ is having my first design commission published this month. You will be able to find the Forest Floor socks, my first sock pattern, in this months issue of Knit Now magazine available 13 September 2018.
Shooting Stars is available to buy now on Ravelry and Love Knitting. I love to see your WIPS and FOs so please do share your successes with me in the comments below or on Instagram using the hashtag #MyConsciousKnits.
